Personal Assistance Services Backup Study Forum
September 11, 2003 - Schuylkill - Schuylkill Mall Sears Wing - More Mobility Showroom
Time: 1:00pm - 3:00pm
Pennsylvania is dedicated to eliminating employment barriers faced by its citizens with disabilities. The Commonwealth has many service programs that can provide the necessary supports for individuals to be employed. However, these services are not always available or constructed in a manner that supports employment. The result is that many individuals willing to work do not have the opportunity to do so. To succeed in reducing these barriers and increasing employment, PCIL needs you.
This forum allows consumers and stakeholders to be the primary voice in shaping and developing future policy regarding the critical issue of Backup Personal Assistance Services (PAS) or attendant care. It has been long been proven and known that the reliability of PAS is extremely important for those who utilize this service to attempt to work, to get to work, and to be and remain employed. When a personal assistant or attendant is not timely or does not show up, it makes it difficult or impossible for a person depending on PAS, to maintain a job or acquire an employment opportunity.
PCIL would like to gain additional insight into your perspective and experience as a consumer or stakeholder as to:
- What does and does not work in achieving reliable, backup PAS as it related to employment.
- What does it mean for a consumer “wishing to be employed”? Help us develop that definition.
Please join us and the Schuylkill Advisory Committees on Employment to support people with disabilities in securing and sustaining competitive employment.
